RWE has opened applications for the inaugural intake of the first offshore wind turbine technician apprenticeships to be directly linked to its Vanguard West and Vanguard East offshore wind farm projects, being developed off the Norfolk coast.
The initial intake will see six apprentices begin a three-year programme designed to develop the specialist skills needed to support offshore wind turbine operations and maintenance. The apprenticeships combine classroom learning with practical industry experience, giving successful candidates the opportunity to work alongside experienced technicians while gaining recognised engineering qualifications.
Adam Ezzamel, RWE;’s Norfolk Vanguard Projects Director, said: “It is great to be opening applications for the first turbine technician apprenticeships linked to Vanguard West and East. The projects are moving forward at pace and with that comes real opportunities for people to build skills and careers connected to what’s happening here in Norfolk. These roles offer a practical way into the industry and we’re looking forward to seeing the first apprentices get started and grow with the projects.”
The programme is aimed at people aged 18 or over with an interest in engineering and who are keen to learn and develop in a hands-on technical role. Apprentices will need to be comfortable working at height and at sea and willing to work shifts as part of offshore teams, including periods of up to two weeks on a Service Operation Vessel. The role is well suited to individuals who enjoy practical problem solving, working closely with others and operating in an environment where safety comes first.
During the programme, apprentices will learn how to inspect, maintain and troubleshoot wind turbine systems, building experience across both mechanical and electrical disciplines. The apprenticeship leads to an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering.
As Vanguard West and East progress, they are expected to support a wide range of roles throughout construction, as well as long term skilled jobs once the projects move into operation. Apprenticeships such as these are designed to help develop the workforce needed for those future phases. The apprenticeship opportunities build on RWE’s wider skills and education activity across Norfolk, and reflect the growing need for technical skills connected to offshore wind projects in the region.
Applications are open now, with a closing date of 27 February 2026 and a planned start date in August 2026.
